"Hmmm"

"So tell me about your journey"

"oh man, it was adventurous. When i started from home, everything was fine and calm. I was riding my lexus proud as usual when that stupid drunk youngster with his big fat truck came right in front, i just couldn't control, and... bang. Well, I thought i am going to loose my life, but well - I just lost my legs"

Both started laughing like ghosts...

Planet Pluto is dead

The native of controversaries - the Science - gave birth to a recent one - "There are not 9 anymore but only 8 planets; Pluto has been demoted to Dwarf planet and officially(??) fired off the Planetary status.(Well, who gave it first - it's all wierd) - officially by International Astronomical Union.

The reason turns out to be that few more objects similar to that of Pluto has been discovered and hundreds of them more are believed to be existing. Well, I know how difficult it was to remember these nine planets in their order when I was in school. Now if they are to increase the count, the question "Name the planets of our Solar system" will enter into an essay type question. So, they decided to be hard on the qualifications of a planet, and eliminated Pluto from the list, thus silencing all other similar objects' claims to be planets.

Here is the updated version of definiton of a Planet:

A planet1 is a celestial body that (a) is in orbit around the Sun, (b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and (c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.

Pluto fails in criteria C and goes down as "Dwarf planet". This decision has raised lots of objections around the world. What problems do they have?
1. The least I can think off is that all books, training aids and those posters has to be redesigned
2. there might be a big confusion in the current academic year as which answer is right
3. I always see the navagrahas in Hindu temples as in synch with nine planets - will that harmony be disturbed?

Well, advantage being the kids need not remember 9 planets any more. (I would have preferred uranium to be removed in that case as pluto was easy to remember)

In course of time, people might forget the name - "pluto" - how fast does one's status change?

Good Bye Pluto.(I hate to say that)
